Breast implant surgery can be customized to match with the unique needs of a patient.

At the time of pre-op consultation, the surgeon will explain the various steps involved in breast augmentation. This will give full clarity to the patient about what to expect during the surgery, and help her overcome any initial anxiety about the procedure.

Patients in West Hollywood, Beverly Hills, Los Angeles, CA and surrounding communities have an opportunity to receive breast augmentation from the fantastic, cordial, and board certified plastic surgeon Roger Tsai, MD.

Anesthesia

The first step after the patient is brought into the surgery room is to place her under anesthesia. General anesthesia is typically used to perform breast augmentation surgery. This may be administered by an anesthesiologist or a registered anesthetist nurse.

The patient may feel some grogginess, nausea and other mild side effects of anesthesia for a few hours after the surgery. Most patients can return home the same day after the initial side effects of anesthesia have worn off. The patient should have someone responsible to drive her back home after breast augmentation plastic surgery.

Placing the Incisions

After anesthesia, the next step will be the placement of incisions in pre-determined locations in a discreet manner. The incisions could be located under the breast crease, in the armpit area, around the areola border, or even around the navel area in a few cases. The surgeon will place the incisions in natural creases as far as possible to keep the subsequent scars concealed.

During the customized breast implant surgery planning, the surgeon will determine the size and location of the incisions according to the patient’s incision preferences. They will take into account the patient’s breast anatomy and her personal cosmetic goals.

Implant Placement

Breast implants can be placed under the pectoral muscle or in front of the pectoral muscle immediately behind the breast tissue. The surgeon will decide the implant placement after assessing the implant size and evaluating the unique breast anatomy of the patient. The benefits and limitations of each placement option will be informed to the patient to help her make a well-considered choice.

Incision Closure

Once the implants are placed and adjusted into position, the surgeon will carefully close the incisions with removable or absorbable sutures. Temporary drain tubes will be placed under the skin in the incision sites. The surgeon will instruct the patient about keeping the incision areas dry and contamination free in order to minimize the risk of infection.

Wearing Surgical Bra

The initial bandages will be replaced in a day or two with a special surgical bra, which should be worn for several weeks. This will help in faster healing and the breast tissue will acquire new shape.
